Shadow Lake

Ridgeview Retreat is at 108 Shadow Lake Rd 3, Norland, Ontario K0M 2L0.

Shadow Lake is in the Kawartha Lakes

Shadow Lake is a natural lake and is quite deep at the center. It is good for fishing, swimming, boating,  and water recreation.

Although not directly connected to the Trent system, our lake is considered a "flow-through" lake and the water levels vary depending on the needs of the Trent.

We are members of the Shadow Lakes Association which monitors our water levels and water quality as well as installing rock and channel markers in the lake in the spring.

Kirkfield Lift Locks (10 min west of Coboconk) is the second highest hydraulic lift lock in the world.

Fenelon Falls (15 min south of Coboconk): more locks and tourist boutiques and restaurants. There's also a Canadian Tire, Home Hardware, grocery store, beer store and LCBO but Coboconk is closer to Norland if that's what you're looking for.
Highlands Cinema (20 min east in Kinmount) shows first run movies in smaller theatres furnished with seats from original movie theatres from around North America. The owner, Keith Strata, has taken his love of movies and movie memorabilia and extended his home into the surrounding woods to create five theatres and a museum that are open to the public only during cottage season. Leave at least 30 minutes for touring the museum.

Norland: The Links at Monck's Landing is a family-run operation started a few years ago by our neighbor. It's become one of our favorites.

Minden: Beaverbrook is right in the heart of Minden and Blairhampton is about 10 minutes north of Minden.

Fenelon Falls: Byrnell Golf Club is located on the road on the way into Fenelon Falls from Norland.

This property has one of the original cottages on the lake, dating from the 1920’s and, as such, in our opinion, is built at one of the best locations on the lake.  Although it’s a climb up the stairs to get to the cottage from the beach, the view from the porch and yard is worth it.  Also, being set back from the water, the yard is quite private and is screened by trees and fencing.

The cottage was renovated approximately 20 years ago to be a four-season home, but it still retains its character. The original wrap-around porch was enclosed with windows that bring in sunshine and can be opened to allow breezes to naturally cool the cottage on warmer days. It provides several areas for reading, playing board games, or doing jig-saw puzzles. We renovated the bedrooms in 2014 to improve the sound barrier between the rooms (drywall and insulation instead of just plywood).

The kitchen is fairly modern with newer appliances and is well-stocked with appliances, dishes, pots, pans and utensils that should satisfy most needs.  Many prefer to use the gas barbecue, however, and plan their menus around it. In 2015 we added a 12' x 20' deck with a new screened gazebo and outdoor dining set for a perfect spot for outdoor meals or you can bring the food straight in from the barbecue by the screened door into the dining room.

The local grocery store in Coboconk caters to the summer cottage traffic and has a good selection of meat for the grill. The beer store is right next door to the grocery store and the LCBO is just around the corner.

The waterfront faces southeast and warms up quickly in the morning.  Early morning coffee or tea at the lakeside, while the water is still calm, is our favorite part of the day.  The ducks passing by will stop for stale bread, if offered.

The cottage has a steep driveway with space for one car at the top and one at the bottom of the slope and stairs up to the cottage.

A canoe and a rowboat are available for your use.  Life jackets are not supplied so bring your own.
